Unraveled

Date

October 2025

This project was inspired by Orange, a mezzotint by artist Wako Ito, circa 1980, displayed in the NEHMA at USU. I was drawn to this piece because of the layered texture and quiet motion of the orange mid-peel and wanted to translate that feeling into a wearable form.

The design features an asymmetrical neckline and soft drape that echo the peel’s spiral. The warm orange fabric and subtle sheen reflect the light and depth of the original artwork.

The pattern was created through flat patterning with a focus on balance, proportion, and flow.

Materials: Upcycled silk plain weave with metalic thread brocade
